Aspen Journalism is a local, nonprofit, investigative, and collaborative journalism organization based in Aspen, Colorado.
Our mission is to produce investigative, in-depth and insightful journalism, as well-informed citizens make better decisions and journalism is key to a functioning democracy.
We take a “shoeleather” approach to beat reporting and do so in collaboration with other local and regional news organizations, which helps us inform more people.
And after we publish our stories on the Aspen Journalism website, other news organizations are invited to publish them, without charge, under our Creative Commons guidelines.
Our area of interest radiates outward from Aspen to include Pitkin County, the Roaring Fork River watershed, the Western Slope, the state of Colorado, and the Colorado River basin.
Founded in 2011, Aspen Journalism is a member the Colorado Press Association and the Institute for Nonprofit News.
We are supported by people who value the civic importance of quality local journalism.
